Jakarta, Ministry of Education and Culture – Deputy Minister of Culture, Giring Ganesha, stated that the spirit of heroism must be revived through sincere work and empathy-oriented public service. In his speech on Heroes' Day, Giring emphasized that today's struggle is no longer fought with weapons, but with knowledge, sincerity, and devotion to the nation.
"The heroes taught us that independence did not fall from the sky. Independence was born of patience, courage, honesty, togetherness, and sincerity," said Giring while reading a speech from Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf at the 2025 Heroes' Day commemoration ceremony at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) office in Jakarta (10/11).
He emphasized that the values of the heroes' struggle must be realized through concrete work and the direction of national development. This spirit is reflected in President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita, which emphasizes the importance of defending the weak, fighting for justice, and ensuring that no child of the nation is left behind in the flow of progress.
Giring also advised all State Civil Apparatus (ASN) to emulate the fighting spirit of heroes through public service. "We honor the struggles of Indonesian heroes by striving to serve the Indonesian people. Because I believe being a public servant or public official is 100% about service. We must provide the best service, using love and empathy for the community," he said.
One of the ceremony participants, Jatu Riani Mandasari, from the Finance Bureau of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, said that the commemoration of Heroes' Day serves as an important reminder to continue the struggle of the nation's predecessors. "The meaning of Heroes' Day for me is remembering the heroes' struggle and continuing it through real work for the nation's progress," she said. She added that this spirit must be realized by working honestly, with discipline, and avoiding corrupt practices.
Similarly, Amita from the Ministry of Education and Culture's Book Center stated that the younger generation of civil servants (ASN) needs to instill heroic values in their daily lives by linking them to professionalism, work ethic, and honesty. She hopes that the commemoration of Heroes' Day can serve as a momentum to foster a spirit of unity and inspiration among ASN.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Philharmonic Choir conductor Sukanty Sidharta reminded the younger generation not to forget the nation's history and struggle. "This independence was not achieved easily. The best way to honor the heroes' service is to fill independence with positive work and contributions," he said.
The commemoration of Heroes' Day serves as a reminder that the ideals of independence must continue to be realized through concrete actions. This momentum calls on all elements of the nation to continue the heroes' struggle by working harder, thinking more clearly, and serving more sincerely. Now, it's our turn to keep the flame of struggle unquenched by working, acting, and making an impact. (Author: Ikke, Intan/Editor: Denty A.)
