Jakarta, September 28, 2025 - The Zakat Collection Unit of the National Zakat Agency (UPZ Baznas) of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), won 3 awards in the 2025 UPZ Award. The awards include the UPZ Ministry with the Best Reporting, the UPZ Ministry with the Distribution of Zakat, Infaq, and Alms (ZIS), and the UPZ The Rising Star.
"The establishment of the Ministry of Education and Culture's UPZ (Zone of the National Zakat Agency) was an initiative of the Minister of Education and Culture, Prof. Abdul Mu'ti. This certainly provides significant motivation for all UPZ administrators to increase revenue potential and distribute benefits to all eligible recipients," Mariman Darto, Advisor to the Ministry of Education and Culture's National Zakat Agency (Baznas), stated in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (September 26).
"We would like to thank Baznas and Mandikdasmen for this award. We are truly grateful and consider this award a motivation for us to continue providing excellent service and zakat distribution to all. We hope that more employees and the public will be encouraged to pay zakat through the Baznas UPZ of the Ministry of Education and Culture, so that those in need can experience greater benefits," said Mariman Darto, who also serves as the Minister's Expert Staff for Talent Management.
This award is a form of recognition for the active support of the Ministry of Education and Culture in encouraging zakat collection through the establishment of the Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ) within the ministry. Since then, the UPZ Baznas of the Ministry of Education and Culture has been actively collecting zakat, infaq, and alms to support social and educational programs.
For information, the UPZ Baznas Kemendikdasmen was officially established in March 2025 based on the Decree of the Chairman of Baznas Number 87 of 2025. After the formation of the management and secretariat team, the UPZ Baznas Kemendikdasmen conducted socialization and data collection of employees who were willing to distribute zakat, infak, and alms.
To date, approximately 40% of the total number of Ministry of Education and Culture employees have been registered. The collected funds are channeled into a UPZ account, managed 70% by the Ministry's UPZ Baznas and 30% by Baznas. The proceeds are distributed in the form of assistance, educational scholarships, and basic food packages.
