Strengthening Character Building through Facilitation and Advocacy with the Catur Education Center

Semarang, October 2, 2025 - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) through the Character Strengthening Center held a Character Strengthening Policy Facilitation and Advocacy activity at the Central Java Center for Education Quality Assurance (BBPMP) on Tuesday (30/9). The successful implementation of the character strengthening policy is greatly influenced by the active role of the Four Education Centers, namely educational units, families, communities, and the media, which aims to strengthen synergy in the implementation of character strengthening policies in educational units, especially the implementation of the 7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children (7KAIH).

In her remarks, the Head of the Character Strengthening Center (Kapuspeka), Rusprita, stated that the world of education currently faces major challenges, ranging from gadget addiction, the strawberry and nocturnal generation phenomena, to children's involvement in online content. According to her, this condition is a serious concern for the government, particularly the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, in line with the vision and mission of President Prabowo's administration, which emphasizes the importance of character strengthening to realize Quality Education for All.

"These seven good habits, while seemingly simple, have a significant impact on character development. They include how children value time, develop discipline, empathy, strength, self-respect through maintaining good health, and a desire to continue learning, among others," said Rusprita.

The Head of the Center for Inclusion and Development (Kapuspeka) added that one of the challenges facing children today is a tendency to be lazy or reluctant to move. Therefore, the role of parents and teachers is crucial in guiding children's interests and talents so they remain involved in positive activities. Through the Great Indonesian Children's Gymnastics program and various extracurricular activities, children's immense energy can be channeled effectively so it isn't wasted on negative activities. Children's involvement in these activities also helps shape character, boost self-confidence, and develop social skills.

"Our job is to channel these children's immense energy into positive activities. It's our responsibility to provide a variety of extracurricular options that align with their interests and talents. God willing, this will also develop soft skills, boost their self-confidence, and enhance their social skills," he explained.

Rusprita also stated that the presence of media plays a crucial role in the Four Centers of Education. Media is not merely a supplement, but a source of learning that shapes children's thinking, attitudes, and behavior beyond the family and school.

"The media is an incredibly important channel for information, especially for our children, who are already digital natives. Often, for example, as parents or teachers, we forbid our children from doing something. But when they see a public figure on social media doing the exact opposite, that's what they might believe more," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Character Strengthening Advocacy Division, Agus Muhammad, emphasized that the goal of this activity is not only to focus on policy socialization, but also on efforts to realize inclusive, diverse, and character-based education through positive habits in schools.

"The goal of this activity is to disseminate various character-building policies, particularly those related to strengthening character education through inculcation in educational institutions, fostering a safe, comfortable, and joyful learning culture, and how to realize inclusivity and diversity," Agus concluded.

This activity was attended by participants from 35 districts/cities in Central Java who came from various elements of the school community, ranging from junior high schools, senior high schools, vocational schools, to special needs schools, including school principals through MKKS. In addition, representatives of organizational partners, religious communities, parents, educational communities, and the mass media were also present. The presence of these various parties is part of the strategy to realize character strengthening through the four centers of education. It is hoped that it will produce a follow-up plan that maps the roles of each party and interventions that can be carried out collaboratively and will serve as a shared reference for future evaluation.*** (Author: Destya / Editor: Ririn, Seno H. / Documentation: BPPMP Central Java)
