Lamongan, October 9, 2025 – The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is collaborating with the National Crafts Council (Dekranas) to preserve Indonesian weaving through courses and training. The Entrepreneurship Skills Education Program (PKW) initiated by Kemendikdasmen is one of the strategic programs that is part of the National Priority Program and has been collaborating with Dekranas since 2020. Through this collaboration, students are trained to learn, hone their skills, and at the same time pave the way to become competitive new entrepreneurs.
Tatang Muttaqin, Director General of Vocational Education at the PKPLK (Vocational Education and Training Center), stated in his report that the PKW program aligns with the mandate of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, namely "Quality Education for All." Through non-formal education, Indonesian children can continue to be empowered and improve their skills.
"The 2025 PKW Collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Culture and the National Crafts Department (Dekranas) targets 500 students in Indonesia, emphasizing not only courses and training but also the sustainability of the businesses the participants have started," Tatang explained in Lamongan, East Java, Tuesday (7/10).
Director General Tatang explained that four Regional National Craft Councils (Dekranasda) are joining this initiative and are ready to implement the PKW program, a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Culture and Dekranas. These include Lamongan Regency (East Java), Bojonegoro Regency (East Java), Jepara Regency (Central Java), and Ogan Ilir Regency (South Sumatra). Tatang hopes that through this collaboration, the younger generation will be able to produce economically viable products that will reach not only the local market but also the international market.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Masmidah, as Deputy Chair of the New Entrepreneurship Division of Dekrasnas, advised the younger generation to continue preserving cultural heritage and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit.
"The young people participating in this training are extraordinary because they are agents of cultural heritage. Through this Dekranas PKW Collaboration, they learn independence to become weavers and young entrepreneurs, especially those who have not pursued formal education," said Masmidah.
Masmidah hopes that the PKW training will be carried out as optimally as possible, enabling participants to start independent businesses with a passion for preserving Indonesian textiles. "Follow the training well and develop yourself to advance. Practice diligently and enthusiastically, even though there may be many obstacles. Keep strengthening yourself and never give up," she said.
Synergy of Cooperation
This collaborative program between the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the National Crafts Department (Dekranas) targeted 5,544 children across Indonesia between 2020 and 2024. This activity also marks the synergy between the central and regional governments in ensuring the success of the PKW Tekun Tenun dan Kriya program.
On the same occasion, Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi expressed his appreciation for this collaborative program. He believed that this synergy between the regional and central governments could accelerate economic transformation in the region, particularly in Lamongan.
"Lamongan has potential in weaving and batik. This program aligns with Lamongan Regency's mission to develop the creative industry and create new, independent, and competitive entrepreneurs," said Yuhronur.
Meanwhile, Metty Herindra, Head of the New Entrepreneurship Division of the National Crafts Department (Dekranas), expressed her enthusiasm for the implementation of the PKW program, a collaboration between the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Dekranas. Metty urged for the program's effective implementation and continued monitoring after the training.
"The PKW program is proof that the government is truly present in human resource development. To strengthen the program's achievements and ensure its sustainability, regular monitoring and evaluation are necessary," said Metty.*** (Author: PKPLK and BKHM Directorate General of Vocational Education Team/Editor: Denty A., Seno H./Photographer: Cepi)
