Batu City, Malang October 12, 2025 - Deputy Mayor of Batu, Henry Suyanto, expressed his gratitude to the central government for the assistance of revitalizing educational units amounting to Rp1.7 billion to support improving the quality of learning in various educational units in Batu City.
"Education isn't just about numbers, but about the future and civilization. A city's progress isn't measured by the height of its buildings, but by the enthusiasm of its children to learn," Henry said, expressing his gratitude for the government's attention to Batu City. He conveyed this directly to the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, in Batu City, East Java, where he met with students and teachers from SDK Sang Timur, SMPK Widyatama, and SMAK Yos Sudarso.
Batu City currently has 293 educational institutions with various impressive achievements, such as a Human Development Index of 76 percent, an expected length of schooling of 14.58 years, and steadily increasing literacy and numeracy rates among elementary and junior high school students. Henry is optimistic that government assistance will boost the educational sector in his city.
Five Priority Education Programs
On the same occasion, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education also outlined the Ministry's five priority programs to advance primary and secondary education. The first is improving learning facilities and infrastructure through the construction and renovation of more than 16,000 educational units across Indonesia, as well as distributing Digital Interactive Boards to more than 288,000 schools.
The second program is improving the quality of teachers and education personnel, including providing scholarships to 12,500 teachers this year and 150,000 teachers next year, as well as implementing the Teacher Professional Education Program (PPG) for more than 600,000 teachers this year and 808,000 teachers next year.
The third program focuses on improving teacher welfare and competitiveness through increased certification allowances, training in digital learning, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and counseling, as well as a one-day policy for teachers to learn without teaching.
The fourth program is an in-depth learning approach by strengthening literacy, numeracy and introducing KA and Coding-based subjects.
The fifth program is the implementation of a national-scale Academic Ability Test (TKA) which will be held in November 2025 for 12th grade students and March 2026 for elementary and junior high school students, as an effort to improve academic achievement and a positive competitive spirit among students.
Minister Mu'ti also announced a new policy regarding counseling. "All teachers, not just guidance and counseling teachers, must carry out guidance and counseling duties. This duty will count toward fulfilling the mandatory teaching hours through their role as Homeroom Teachers," she explained. *** (Writer: Rona Uly/Editors: Denty A., Seno H./Photographer: Nurlaili)
