Yogyakarta, December 5, 2025 — The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) continues to strengthen educational services for children with special needs through the Revitalization of Educational Units at Special Needs Schools (SLB). This effort was marked by the inauguration of the revitalization at the Pembina State Special Needs School in Yogyakarta by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, on Wednesday (3/12).
During the inauguration, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education stated, "Today, we are jointly inaugurating the revitalization of learning facilities for 2025 at the Special Needs School (SLB), whose construction is now 100% complete. This program is a policy of President Prabowo Subianto. We are helping to repair damaged schools. We are adding classrooms to accommodate children studying in special needs schools."
The facility inaugurated was the construction of a connecting corridor between classes at the Pembina State Special Needs School in Yogyakarta. This corridor provides a solution to accessibility challenges students have faced, particularly when having to move between rooms in the rain or hot weather. With the corridor connecting rooms to the dormitory, students' learning and mobility are safer and more comfortable.
On that occasion, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education also greeted several other special needs (SLB) students receiving revitalization assistance through an Interactive Flat Panel . "Hopefully, with the improved facilities, my children can learn with even more enthusiasm. By studying diligently, God willing, you will become great Indonesian children," he said.
The Director General of Vocational Education, Special Education, and Special Services Education, Tatang Muttaqin, reported that this activity involved representatives from 15 special schools (SLB), as well as support from the provincial education office, local governments, and the community. "In Yogyakarta alone, of the 16 special schools being revitalized, most are already over 90% complete, and God willing, all will be completed by the end of December," explained Director General Tatang.
He emphasized that collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and the community is crucial to ensure optimal development and maintenance. The revitalization of special needs schools (SLB) is expected to produce superior, inclusive, and competitive educational institutions.
Real Benefits for School Residents
The Head of SLB Negeri Pembina Yogyakarta, Nur Khasanah, said that the construction of the corridor was not only a physical addition, but also fulfilled important accessibility needs.
"This is very beneficial for disability services at the school. This hallway connects the back classroom to the front classroom. Previously, students changing classes often got wet because of the distance. This hallway ensures accessibility," he said.
On the occasion of National Disability Day 2025, SLB Negeri Pembina Yogyakarta also received the Disability-Friendly Educational Unit Award. "Thank you for entrusting SLB Negeri Pembina Yogyakarta to us. We hope that this award will enable us to continue working together to improve the quality of education at SLB Negeri Pembina Yogyakarta for children with disabilities, as they strive to achieve independence," said Nur.
One of the students, Gendis Alfira Putri, also expressed her joy. "Thank you, Minister. I'm grateful for this bridge, which keeps me out of the rain. To my friends, keep up the good work," said Gendis.
