43 Million out of 53 Million Students Have Received MBG

Jakarta, June 13, 2026 – Improving the quality and standard of education throughout Indonesia remains a key government commitment. This was emphasized during a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (June 11).

In an effort to build the character of Indonesian students, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti explained that the implementation of Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) is closely aligned with strengthening character education through the 7 Habits of Great Indonesian Children (7 KAIH) Movement. The 7 KAIH includes healthy and nutritious eating, which is implemented through the implementation of MBG in schools.

As of June 10, 2026, 80.7 percent of students had benefited from the MBG program. Of the approximately 53 million students in Indonesia, more than 43 million students (not teachers, as in the video circulating previously due to a slip of the tongue) have received and experienced the program's benefits. Various surveys and feedback on program implementation also indicate that the majority of beneficiary students hope the MBG program can continue.

Furthermore, various supporting modules have been prepared to support the implementation of the MBG program. "Several studies, including those conducted by Labsosio, the Center for Sociological Studies at the University of Indonesia, have shown that MBG has had a positive impact on student learning motivation, school attendance, and academic achievement," said Minister Abdul Mu'ti in a statement at the Merdeka Palace.

Construction of 100 Integrated National Schools

Furthermore, Minister Abdul Mu'ti also reported on the progress of the Integrated National School program, which is part of the government's efforts to build a superior education ecosystem. He stated that the Integrated National School is designed as a superior non-boarding school that will provide quality educational services with integrated standards.

"The government, through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), plans to build 100 integrated national schools, and 36 proposed schools have been selected for construction to begin this year. Initially, five schools will be opened using Kemendikdasmen Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) buildings in the regions.
