Tasikmalaya Vocational School Teachers Enthusiastically Participate in the Competency Improvement Program from the Ministry of Education and Culture

Tasikmalaya, West Java, August 12, 2026 – The development of artificial intelligence (AI) requires vocational education to continuously adapt to dynamic industry standards. Through the 2026 Competency Improvement Program for Vocational Educators and Education Personnel Batch 4, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is promoting AI as a training material to address the challenges of digitalization, requiring vocational schools to constantly comply with ever-increasing industry standards.

One of the training participants, Muhammad, a Visual Communication Design (DKV) teacher at SMK Negeri 1 Tasikmalaya, expressed his enjoyment of the training. He noted that in today's digital era, the widespread use of AI requires teachers to keep up with technological developments.

"In this extraordinary era, especially AI, sometimes we only know about AI but haven't maximized this technology, so I'm very enthusiastic about participating in this training," said Muhammad.

Muhammad also hopes that training like this can be held regularly so that all teachers, especially vocational teachers, can broaden their knowledge. He also emphasized the need for training levels to further enhance vocational teacher competency.

"Increase training to improve human resources, not just once. Teachers who haven't had it take turns to participate, so it's not just once, and there are levels too, from beginner to advanced," Muhammad added.

In line with that, Samrah Hadian Ardi, a DKV teacher from SMK Negeri 4 Tasikmalaya who also participated in the training, said that this AI training is very much needed, where currently teachers have an important role in guiding students to be wise in using technology, especially AI.

"I feel this training is very necessary because now is the era of developing technology, especially now that there is AI, this can help us, but we still have to be able to control it. It's not AI that controls us, but AI that we control," explained Sam, his nickname.

Responding to this, the Head of the Center for the Development of Vocational Education Quality Assurance in the Field of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (BBPPMPV BMTI), Baharudin, emphasized that BMTI continues to strive to improve the competence of vocational teachers in all regions, not only for teachers, but also principals and supervisors, including instructors of course institutions. "This year, BMTI trained 3,159 educators and education personnel (PTK), God willing, this year our target will even reach more than 100 percent by the end of the year," said Baharudin.

Finally, in his remarks and opening remarks, Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) Atip Latipulhayat urged vocational teachers to improve their competencies to keep up with today's technological advancements. "Technology is no longer evolving in years; perhaps in the future, new technologies will emerge in a matter of months. This is an extraordinary challenge," concluded Deputy Minister Atip.** (Writer & Photographer: Morecka/Editor: Destian)
