Jakarta, September 2, 2026 — The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen)'s proposed additional budget of Rp157.76 trillion for the 2027 Fiscal Year (TA) has received support from Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives for further discussion in the Budget Agency.

"The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has officially proposed an additional budget of Rp157.76 trillion to support various national and ministerial priority programs," said the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, in a working meeting with Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, on Tuesday (1/9).

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education stated that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's budget ceiling for the 2027 fiscal year was previously set at Rp61.10 trillion, an increase of Rp2.86 trillion from the indicative ceiling of Rp58.24 trillion. However, he stated that the increase in the budget ceiling phase was still not optimal to support the implementation of various priority programs.

The budget ceiling of Rp61.10 trillion has been allocated through a Joint Budget Ceiling Letter (SBPA) between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas). The established budget ceiling will then be discussed in the Budget Agency, along with a proposed additional budget of Rp157.76 trillion, to secure approval from the Indonesian House of Representatives.

"This addition is still far from what we proposed and cannot optimally support the implementation of targeted priority programs to achieve quality education for all," said the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's (Kemendikdas) budget proposal has received approval from Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) for further deliberation in the Budget Committee. Muhamad Nur Purnamasidi, a member of Commission X from the Golkar Party faction, expressed his approval. "We, the Golkar Party faction, agree with the 2027 budget ceiling and the proposed additional budget, hoping that the quality of our education services will continue to improve in the coming years," he said.

Hoerudin Amin, a member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PAN faction, echoed this sentiment. He expressed his gratitude to the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education for their efforts to champion the hopes of teachers in Indonesia and expressed his approval of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education's budget allocation and proposed additional budget.

"We, the PAN faction, convey our approval of the ceiling and the proposed additional budget. We hope it will be realized and become a reality," he said.

In his presentation, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education explained that the proposed additional budget consists of the 13-Year Compulsory Education Program amounting to Rp115.25 trillion, the Teaching and Learning Quality Program Rp35.81 trillion, the Vocational Education and Training Program Rp3.69 trillion, the Language and Literature Development Program Rp235.73 billion, and the Management Support Program Rp2.77 trillion.

Furthermore, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education stated that one of the objectives of the proposed additional budget is to expand the target for revitalizing educational units to 100,000. "The expansion of the target for revitalizing educational units to 100,000 educational units, in accordance with the President's directive, includes increasing the PIP (Public Service Provider) unit costs for elementary and junior high schools, as well as providing scholarships and educational funding for students," he explained.

In addition, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education also proposed strengthening support for teachers through the continuation of the tuition assistance program to improve competency up to the undergraduate/diploma-level.
