Jakarta, February 4, 2026 - The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has brought significant changes to the world of work and industry. This situation requires the vocational education system, particularly vocational high schools (SMK), to adapt quickly and strategically to prepare graduates ready to work in future industries.
The integration of AI in vocational high school education is crucial because its use has the potential to increase learning effectiveness, competency assessment accuracy, and educational unit management efficiency. Therefore, to broaden insight and increase knowledge regarding AI implementation strategies in vocational high schools, the Directorate of Vocational High Schools, Directorate General of Vocational Education, Special Education, and Special Service Education (PKPLK), Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), in collaboration with the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (KRIVET) held an International Seminar entitled "The Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in TVET and Future Strategies."
The event aims to broaden perspectives and increase knowledge regarding strategies for implementing AI in various vocational education fields. This effort also serves as a strategic step to share best practices and policies, and formulate adaptive, inclusive, and sustainable future strategies.
On this occasion, the Director General of Vocational Education PKPLK, Tatang Muttaqin, welcomed the collaboration between Indonesia and KRIVET. In the forum, Director General Tatang stated that vocational education plays a strategic role in supporting economic growth, industrial competitiveness, and social inclusion. Through vocational education and training (TVET) integrated with AI, it is hoped that human resources (HR) will be developed that are skilled, adaptive, innovative, and ethically responsible in using technology.
"Integrating artificial intelligence into vocational education and training is no longer an option, but a strategic necessity. At the same time, we must ensure that no one is left behind, and that digital transformation remains inclusive and accessible," said Director General Tatang in Jakarta on Tuesday (February 3).
Director General Tatang also added that leveraging AI for personalized learning paths, adaptive assessments, and real-time competency mapping can strengthen the teaching framework and ensure the curriculum remains aligned with the rapidly changing demands of the global industry.
"We must ensure that our graduates are not only ready for work today but also ready to face the future economy. This seminar provides a platform to share and discuss future strategies for integrating AI into TVET systems across various countries," explained Director General Tatang.
Meanwhile, Kim Young Saing, a representative from KRIVET, emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with vocational schools and the strategic role of vocational education amidst the significant changes brought about by AI. Artificial intelligence is considered to have and will continue to transform various aspects of education, industry, society, culture, and family life, requiring educational institutions in various countries to respond seriously.
"Education isn't just about academic degrees, but also about skills, character, and social roles. In this context, schools need to adapt their curriculum, including adopting AI, to align with industry needs," said Kim Young Saing.
In a global context, cooperation between Korea and Indonesia is seen as a significant opportunity amidst geopolitical and economic changes. Therefore, the synergy that has been established is crucial.
"Let's discuss together to strengthen this collaboration to create relevant and impactful education for the future," concluded Kim Young Saing.*** (Author: PKPLK Directorate General Vocational Team, Ririn/Editor: Denty A., Seno H./Documentation: PKPLK Directorate General Vocational Team)
