Utilizing Interactive Flat Panels (IFPs) Better Prepares Students to Face Foreign Workforce Challenges

Mataram, April 15, 2026 – The use of Interactive Flat Panels (IFPs), digital interactive boards, in educational institutions has been proven to assist students in the learning process, including preparing them for the Academic Ability Test (TKA). The use of this interactive learning technology not only makes the learning process more engaging but also improves students' understanding of the material, particularly in strengthening literacy and numeracy.

This was evident during a visit by the Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen), Fajar Riza Ul Haq, to SMP Negeri 6 Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. During the visit, Fajar spoke directly with students who had just completed their Indonesian language training program.

"My presence here is to ensure that President Prabowo's IFP can be utilized effectively by our children and can assist in the learning process, including helping them cope with foreign workers," said Deputy Minister Fajar in Mataram, Tuesday (14/4).

Based on discussions with students, Deputy Minister Fajar revealed that using IFP made them more familiar with technology, thus aiding them in completing digital-based TKA exams. Students also found that learning with IFP made it easier to understand the material and familiarize themselves with the question models that test literacy and logic skills.

Deputy Minister Fajar added that the TKA test questions were specifically designed to measure students' critical thinking, literacy, and numeracy skills. "They realize that these kinds of questions are needed so that when they enter higher education, they will have good literacy and numeracy skills," he explained.

He emphasized that improving literacy and numeracy skills is one of the main focuses of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in building the quality of learning in Indonesia.

Defi Kamilia, a math teacher at Mataram State Middle School 6, explained that the TKA material aligns with the curriculum students have been studying at school. She noted that the numeracy-based and contextual TKA questions encourage students to be more analytical in answering questions.

"We've prepared practice and enrichment sessions because the TKA exam questions are numeracy-based and offer a variety of contexts. Students must be accustomed to analyzing complex multiple-choice and category questions," he explained. He added that preparations have been underway since the beginning of the year, including developing questions in collaboration with the Subject Teachers' Conference (MGMP) and utilizing various resources, including TKA simulations from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

A total of 456 students at SMP Negeri 6 Mataram participated in the TKA which was carried out in four waves, with the support of adequate infrastructure, including computer devices and a stable internet network.

From the students' perspective, the learning experience using IFP was found to be very helpful. One student, Pande, said that using IFP made the learning process more enjoyable and interactive.

"Studying with IFP is more fun and helps with answering TKA questions. We also get used to using technology, because the TKA is done on a laptop," he said. He also noted that the TKA questions are story-based and test logical thinking skills, thus requiring deeper understanding.

Another student, Keyla, echoed this sentiment. She felt the TKA material and exam questions aligned with what she had learned in school. "The questions are similar to what's taught in grades 7 through 9, so it's easier because we've practiced beforehand," she said.

The use of IFP in this learning demonstrates that technology integration can be a crucial factor in supporting student readiness for digital-based assessments. With the support of interactive and adaptive learning, it is hoped that students will gain more confidence and be able to demonstrate their best abilities in the TKA implementation.*** (Author: Stephanie / Editor: Denty A., Seno H. / Photographer: Laili)
