MODULAR Summit 2026 Strengthens Educators' Role in Digital Learning Transformation

Bogor Regency, West Java, August 20, 2026 — The SMA 2026 MODULAR (Creating Digital Content for Learning) program provides a platform for educators to develop creative, interactive, and relevant digital learning content tailored to students' needs. This was highlighted at the 2026 MODULAR Summit, opened by the Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen), Atip Latipulhayat, in Bogor Regency on Thursday (August 20).

This activity, organized by the Directorate of Senior High Schools, is the culmination of the 2026 SMA MODULAR Program series to improve educator competency in utilizing interactive learning media, educational games, virtual laboratories, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Deputy Minister Atip stated that the characteristics of high school students, who are digital natives, particularly Generation Z and Generation Alpha, demand increasingly visual, interactive, and collaborative learning. Therefore, digital transformation is essential to ensure learning remains high-quality, relevant, and adaptable to current developments.

"With the rapid flow of information, digital transformation in the world of education is no longer just an option, but an absolute necessity, a necessity to ensure the quality of national learning remains high-quality, relevant, and adaptive to current developments," he said.

According to him, the government continues to encourage digital transformation by providing technological facilities and infrastructure, including Digital Interactive Boards (PID). However, the presence of these devices must be accompanied by a shift in the learning paradigm. "The essence of digitalization is not just about providing technological devices or transferring textbook text to a monitor. Rather, it shifts the teaching paradigm to make it more meaningful, contextual, and student-centered," he emphasized.

The Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education also emphasized that educators remain irreplaceable. While technology and AI can aid learning, the role of educators still requires a human touch. "Educators remain the primary, irreplaceable actors. Their role as educators cannot be replaced by technology," he said.

Therefore, he appreciates the MODULAR Program which encourages educators not only to use technology, but also to create learning content in the form of Interactive Learning Media (MPI), educational games, and virtual laboratories.

Senior High School Director Yuli Haryanto reported that 4,025 participants participated in the 2026 SMA MODULAR Program through five mentoring sessions. After the mentoring and selection process, 692 participants produced 2,052 pieces of digital learning content. Of these, 874 pieces passed the assessment stage, and 200 participants were selected to participate in the 2026 MODULAR Summit. In the finalization stage, the selected participants produced 362 pieces of content, which will then be uploaded and utilized through Ruang Murid.

The 2026 MODULAR Summit was attended by 200 participants, consisting of 100 offline participants and 100 online participants, and involved facilitators, curators, validators, education practitioners, and 11 learning partners.

Deputy Minister Atip emphasized that the participants' work should not stop at the MODULAR Summit, but should be utilized more broadly. Participants are also expected to become drivers who disseminate knowledge and skills to other educators in their educational units and regions. In the context of AI development, he emphasized the importance of educators' and students' abilities to understand, assess, and utilize technology appropriately. Technological developments, he argued, can also open up opportunities and create new types of jobs, including for educators as creators of learning content.

Through the MODULAR Summit 2026, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is encouraging the formation of a digital learning ecosystem supported by quality content and educator capacity. Collaboration with local governments, BBPMP/BPMP, educational units, and learning partners is expected to further expand the use of digital content. "Upon returning from this summit, participants are mandated to become active initiators who disseminate their knowledge and skills to other educators, colleagues, and colleagues, both internally and externally in their respective educational units," he concluded.*** (Author: Rayhan/Documentation: Directorate of High School Team)
